Over the years there has been much confusion about considered one of Belle Isle's many institutions: the Casino. this is not a gambling casino, but instead uses the previous sense of the word, a spot for "public entertainments." This Casino has been used for this specific purpose since the original structure was built in the 1880s, becoming a gathering location for Detroiters for generations.
The first building to get called the Casino was built in 1887, as Belle Isle was being changed into a municipal park. It was constructed to carry events, bazaars, and things of that nature, which its successor principal purpose is to do as well. The original building burnt down in early 1900s.
The original building was replaced in 1907 using a building produced by the firm of Van Leyen and Schilling. This building has continued to offer its function successfully for approximately 10 years now, and its future seems to become secure well in to the future, inspite of the problems check here that Belle Isle has experienced in recent years.
